Old Releases …

Seen on the New Releases shelf: a Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition of The Book of Common Prayer, introduced by James Wood, the literary critic for the New Yorker (and the son of a Church of England pastor). James’s introduction is here. Pres. DeGioia’s introduction to my conversation with James in Riggs Library at Georgetown, one in the Faith & Culture series, is here. Of one collect in the BCP, James remarks: “To read, or hear, these words is to be taken back to a sixteenth- and seventeenth-century world of risk and daily peril.”
