Georgetown University, in Washington, D.C., founded in 1789, is the nation’s oldest Catholic and Jesuit university. John J. DeGioia, our president since 2001, places special emphasis on the university’s Catholic and Jesuit identity, which we strive to deepen through encounters with people of other Christian backgrounds and other faiths. These are represented in our university community through a rabbinate, an imam, and a range of Protestant chaplains, all coexisting with several dozen members of the Society of Jesus.
